🌲 Rooted in Community: Lessons from My Hometown and Beyond
Some places shape you quietly, like rain on roots.
I didn’t realize how much my hometown held me until I started noticing how deeply community lives in my bones.
I’ve always been deeply intrigued by Native American tribes… their traditions, their reverence for elders, and the powerful sense of belonging that runs through their communities. There’s something so moving about the way wisdom is passed down, and how each person holds a meaningful place within the whole. That kind of connection feels rare and sacred, and it’s something I find myself craving and appreciating more as the world speeds up.
Maybe that’s why I’ve stayed in the same small town where I grew up.
My mom has spent decades teaching in this community. It’s the same place I went to school, and the same halls I now walk in my own work. This little corner of the world holds my roots. And in a quiet, powerful way, it continues to shape me.
Community here means something. It’s kids playing barefoot in the street, letting their imaginations stretch wide. It’s families looking out for each other, even when we don’t always agree. It’s children learning to problem-solve on their own, knowing the adults nearby will step in with steady hands if needed.
It’s small.
It’s imperfect.
But it’s real.
And in that realness is strength… strength in knowing where you come from, and in knowing someone has your back.
As I build Rooted in the Rain, I carry this foundation with me. I believe in nurturing community wherever we are, whether it’s a tight-knit rural town, a neighborhood potluck, or an online circle of support. We need each other. Not in a passive, abstract way. But in the everyday, show up and care kind of way.
Because even when it rains, and it often does around here, it helps to know we’re not alone. That’s where we grow.
✨ A Gentle Reflection for You
If you’ve been feeling disconnected lately, try this:
• Write down three people who make you feel grounded
• Reach out to one of them this week, just to say thank you
Connection doesn’t have to be big to be meaningful.
Small gestures still grow strong roots.
