🌿 Let Yourself Be Seen: A Self-Care Lesson from a Peacock
A gentle reflection on beauty, boldness, and showing up as your whole self.
I see peacocks often near our home.
They’re not rare here, not like a hidden treasure or a fleeting visitor.
They’re part of the rhythm of the area.
Still, every time I notice one, I pause.
The way they carry themselves.
The flash of sapphire and green in the morning light.
Their meow-like call that echoes from the trees… part wildcat, part mystery.
They’re ordinary in this place.
And still, they’re extraordinary.
✨ The Permission to Be Seen
Peacocks don’t apologize for their beauty.
They don’t tuck their feathers away to make others more comfortable.
They don’t wait for permission to be bold.
They just are.
And that got me thinking…
What if we approached self-care that way?
Not as a way to shrink or fix ourselves, but as a return to presence.
To let our whole selves be visible.
To choose not to hide (even when hiding feels easier).
Self-care, then, becomes about:
• Taking up space in your own home and heart
• Wearing what feels right to you (even if it’s a little loud)
• Letting your feelings be known, not muted
• Saying yes to beauty and color, even on ordinary days
🌲 Embodied Beauty (In the Everyday)
In a world that nudges us toward sameness and subtlety, there’s power in simply showing up.
Maybe it looks like:
• Decorating your space with colors that make you feel alive
• Crying in front of your child, then showing them how you care for yourself afterward
• Starting the thing you’ve been quietly dreaming about
• Letting your joy be visible (even when no one else is brave enough to do so)
You don’t have to be rare to be radiant.
You just have to be real.
🌿 A Gentle Practice
If you’ve been playing it small, try this:
🌱 Self-Care Prompt:
What part of me have I been hiding that actually deserves to be seen?
Maybe it’s your voice.
Maybe it’s your creativity.
Maybe it’s your soft heart or your strong opinions or your deep need for beauty.
Whatever it is… let it rise.
Like the echo of a peacock call in the morning air: strange, strong, and unapologetically yours.
🌿 In the rain, we root. In the wild, we grow.
